Making a Center Step Card

It’s been a little on the rainy side, and I wanted to create a little sunshine with the Simon Says Stamp kit that I got in the mail the other day. This is such a fun kit, and I can’t wait to use some more of the included items.

Today I’m making this card for the Send a Smile 4 Kids Cards 4 Teens Challenge and I’m using just the stamp set that came in the Simon Says Stamp kit, One Cool Pineapple. 

While browsing cards on Pinterest, I stumbled across a number of center step cards and have been wanting to try one. So many cards, so little time, right?

I also wanted to do some heat embossing for a little shine along with all that colorful patterned paper. I don’t heat emboss very often, but it really makes this bold stamp stand out.

The papers I used are from this stack by DCWV. There are 180 cute sheets of paper in this pack. Maybe I’ll get around to using them all some day, but then again, maybe not.

I decided that I wanted to do a landscape style card because it gave me room for stamping the bold sentiment right on the decorative paper. The base is made from a piece of card stock measuring 5 1/2 inches wide, and 8 1/2 inches long.

Fun with the Sun

I stamped the sun with VersaMark Watermark and used Ranger Black Sparkle Embossing Powder for this sunny little face. I cut it out using a Sizzix circle die.

Layering three more die cut circles with the little sunny guy gives it some more dimension. It’s almost like a chipboard sticker.

Tim Holtz distress inks in Spiced Marmalade and Mustard Seed were sponged on for the color and also used to ink the edges of the layered sun. I think it turned out awesome.

The sun was adhered with a little bit of foam tape and I decorated the inside of the card in a similar way, but instead used white card stock instead of the summer treats decorative paper.

The you bring the sunshine sentiment was stamped right on the patterned paper also with the  VersaMark Watermark and heat embossed using the Ranger Black Sparkle Embossing Powder. I layered this panel on some orange card stock before adhering it to my card.

Lovin’ all the dimension in this card and wouldn’t it make a great invitation to a summer party!
