A Handmade Valentine’s Day

with this quick and easy coffee filter craft

Happy Monday morning! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. Today I wanted to share this super easy coffee filter craft for Valentine’s Day.

This would be a fun craft to do with kids because they are quick, easy and inexpensive. We buy our coffee filters in a large bulk pack from the warehouse store, so if they don’t turn out perfect, no big deal. You can make another or just decide to be perfectly imperfect.

Gather some simple supplies and let’s get started.

You’ll need:

  • Cone style coffee filters
  • Stamps
  • Ink pads
  • Valentine stickers

Optional:

  • single hole punch
  • twine or string
  • washi tape
  • scrap vinyl

Now for the fun part!

You’re simply going to stamp your coffee filters. If you have lettering, you’ll want to keep it in the center so that when you fold the sides over, you can still see your design.

The “Love That We’re Friends” comes from the Simon Says Stamp “You+Me” set. I got this set in a card kit that I purchased and it’s a wonderful and versatile set that works great for Valentine’s Day.

This next stamp is from and older set,  “Heart Strings Card Making Workshop” from Close To My Heart. This is a set I’ve had for a couple years and it’s perfect for this craft.

Another set that worked out great is “You’re a tweetheart” and it is from the Stamps of Life by Stephanie Barnard. It’s called “birdcage2stamp.”

Now that you’ve finished stamping

Fold your sides in. How much you fold, is going to vary depending on the width of your stamped area. It’s  going to seem like it isn’t perfectly symmetrical. Don’t worry; it’s not. But they turn out great anyway.

Finally, add some wrapped candies to your coffee filter envelope. Chocolate is the perfect treat, right?

Now fold down the back of your coffee filter. Again, how much you fold down depends on your stamped area. Now, you don’t want to lose those sweet treats, so you’ll want to seal up your envelope. You could use stickers, or punch holds and tie your envelope shut with ribbon, rafia or twine. Using washi or glitter tape is also another great option. I like to save money crafting, and what’s great, is you can use what you have!

As an example, I cut a heart from some scrap of vinyl to seal my coffee filter envelope.

Now, go out and share the love with friends, family, teachers or another special someone and have a Happy Valentines Day!
