Corrugated Cardboard Snowman Ornaments

Cardboard is an easy to come by craft supply, easy to work with and so very versatile. I wanted to stick by my mission to NOT buy any more craft supplies for 6 weeks, but you know how it is. Christmas is coming and you want to make cute projects. It isn’t that easy to stay away from the craft store.

Then I realized I had a totally Free craft resource right at my fingertips. Plenty of it at that!

Cute Snowman Ornaments from Cardboard

Today I’m sharing these cute snowman ornaments that I made using a tutorial that I found over at Crafts by Amanda.

I absolutely love snowmen, and when I saw these, I had to give them a try.

There was a link on Amanda’s blog to another post, Today’s Fabulous Finds. I followed her link and there is an awesome project using the little snowman ornaments on another project. I might just have to try that one as well.

Materials You’ll Need to Make Your Own Adorable Snowmen

  • Cardboard boxes
  • Craft paints in white, red, orange, black. (I used Deco Art Acrylic Paints)
  • Hot glue gun
  • Little bits of felt, beads, etc. for embellishment on hats (optional)
  • Paint Brush
  • Old “Scruffy” paint brush

The acrylic craft paints work great for this project. Paint your pieces and then you are ready to assemble your snowmen.

You can use whatever colors you want for painting your project, but I used pretty traditional Christmas colors. The acrylic paints dry pretty quickly and pretty soon you’re on your way to finishing these adorable little guys.

For painting the eyes and mouths, I just dipped the tail end of a small paint brush into the paint and dotted it on.

I added a piece of cardboard to the back when assembling. It gives the ornaments a little bit of stability and I sandwiched some jute twine between the layers, using a good glob of hot glue to secure the ends.

Finished Ornaments

Pinterest is wonderful inspiration for other cardboard ornament projects. These rustic looking snowman ornaments will be a great addition to our tree. I think I’m going to make some for stocking stuffers too! I hope you’ll make some of your own.
