Inspired by Garden Gloves: Thank you Card.

I love to use sketches and check Pinterest for cards. Sometimes I’m inspired by a nice stamps set or stamp line. I haven’t been making cards for all that long, and so I’m still learning all the elements that make for a nice, cohesive design. I often admit, that my imagination is pretty limited, my supplies are simple (many are thrift store finds), I’d love to own a set of nice markers, but don’t, but my worst nightmares are how to use colors and patterned paper.

So I really stepped outside the box for this card and the photo tells it pretty well I think. Sounds silly, but I’ve looked at the bright green, chevron patterned paper at least a hundred times and said to myself, “What do I do with it?” So today you have it, inspired by garden gloves.

The Cricut flowers (believe it or not) are from the Create a Critter, Hedge Hog, Accessory. I did a random “flower” search and found it. For the ‘Thanks’ I used a stamp from the Hedge Hog set that I recently received from Stamps of Life. I loved the text style and I thought it went well with this fun card. I’ve decided to link this card to the Color Throwdown #405 Challenge.

My challenge to you today is to find something crazy to inspire one of your cards. If you do, share a link in the comments. I’d love to see it. That’s it! Thanks for visiting today. Hope you have a great weekend.

MOJO Monday 458

I’m sure it’s a little bit of a stretch but this is my MOJO Monday inspired card for this week. The airplane comes from the B is for Boy Cricut Cartridge. I have 5 little boy peoples in my life and one has a birthday coming up so I wanted to create a special card. The EAA Oshkosh Fly-In is also going on, so we get a little more inspiration this week with a few extra planes going over.

I’ve been having so much fun with my Silhouette, that my Cricut Mini was getting a little lonesome. In addition to the little airplane decided to use clouds from the Create a Critter Cartridge for a little background. Blue dot adhesive ribbon was used  for the small corner banners. I’ve been using a bit of  foam tape lately to give some dimension to the cards and really like using it.

That’s it! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your weekend.

Mojo Monday 457: Anniversary Card

Good evening! Hope you had a terrific weekend. I had a wonderful Saturday out at a local park for our city’s 175th anniversary where I demonstrated basket weaving and sold a quite a few of my handwoven baskets. It was an amazing day but was I ever tired out yesterday. After church and lunch it was definitely nap time.

I bounced back pretty well though. Today was a busy day of catching up on housework and errands, but I still managed to sneak in a Mojo Monday Card and for once I did it ON Monday. While it’s a very simple card, it’s one that is heart felt. My Dad and step mother are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary next weekend and family from several states are all going to be there to help them celebrate. It’s something we haven’t done for quite a long time.

For my card I chose stamps from the “Wishing You” set by Verve and a little flower from Close To My Heart Petite Perks Kaleidoscope Blooms. CTMH Slate, Smoothie and Honey inks were used. I layered some Cricut card stock and a piece of patterned paper for my background. The butterfly and leaves are cuts from the Silhouette Store.

That’s it. Hope you have a great rest of the week!

Mojo Monday 456: A Flower for You

MOJO Monday 456

MOJO456 Big Red Flower

There’s no question it’s July in Wisconsin. We had to do a little watering outside this morning, but it looks as though there is some rain in the forecast. Maybe the flowers will get a little more watering later.

I decided to bring flowers inside today with this Mojo Monday Card. I had this little piece of patterned paper that coordinated nicely with some new card stock that I just received yesterday. I cut out scalloped circles of different sizes on my Silhouette Cameo and added some leaves to make a big red flower. I stamped my sentiment in CTMH Pear ink. The stamp is from Cardz TV “Mixed Messages” set.

That’s it for today. Have a wonderful rest of the week.

Mojo Monday 453: Sweet Summer Watermelon

It’s summer friends and it’s a warm one in Wisconsin! One of my personal summer favorites is watermelon and I have one sitting here that we’re going to have for lunch today. Since it’s summer and I was thinking about that Watermelon, I decided to make this sweet little card for Mojo Monday. Julee’s sketch and the little bear print and cut image from the Silhouette Store worked out perfect for a quick and easy summer card.

I designed my own little frame using some welded shapes and I did a little bit of light Cuttlebug embossing on Kraft card stock for my background. The Happy Summer stamp is from Stamps of Life. Sweet, easy and perfect for the first day of summer!

Hope you’re enjoying your day and have a great week!

Mojo Monday 448 and More Fun with Silhouette

Hello friends!! Today I made a sweet little card for my grandson’s birthday and had a whole lot of fun using my Silhouette Cameo. Far from perfection, but then again learning is half the fun right? I used the MOJO Monday 448 sketch for some inspiration.

First I drew this sketch of a zebra from Silhouette Design Studio using the sketch pen in Silhouette. I used a black watercolor pencil to shade in the stripes. I made a bit of space around him using the “Offset” function. At first I accidentally sketched a line around with the pen, so there is a bit of ink along that cutout line, but now I know how to fix that next time.

I really love that Offset function for layers. I think it really helps me to get the various layers correctly sized, like when I did the little scallop circle layer for the “5”.

I used some Aleene’s Fast Grab Tacky Glue for gluing down my number. It holds well, dries fast, no puckering and just seemed to meet the need I had at the time. I’d purchased it for a 4-H felt puppet class that I taught awhile ago and it has been handy a few times now.

While I don’t have a photo here, I wrote Happy Birthday on the inside and personalized it with his name. I also used the Cameo with the sketch pens for that.

Well, I need to get a stamp on my envelope and get this card in the mail. Thanks for stopping by and we’ll see you again soon.

MOJO Monday 447 and Word Art Wednesday with Silhouette

Hello and thanks for stopping by.  I decided to share a card that I made using inspiration from Mojo Monday 447 and this week’s Word Art Wednesday.

I kept it on the simple side, layering some browns from a Colorbok paper pad. I’m also enjoying some time learning how to use my new Silhouette Cameo. I opened up the Word Art Wednesday verse in Silhouette and used a Silhouette pen to write the verse out.

Thanks so much for stopping by. I’m off to learn a little bit more about this fun machine.

Freshly Made Sketches #232

Good morning!

Today I’m posting a few cards that I just finished for Freshly Made Sketches. This challenge was new to me, and thinking of something to do was indeed a challenge!

The background on this first card was done with a masking tape technique background. This was also new, so it took me a couple tries to get a background that I really liked. The stamped sentiment is from Stamps of Life and comes along with a bicycle themed set, but I just love this little rider couple that I created in Cricut Craft Room with the Yee Haw cartridge.

The second and third cards are also loosely based on the sketch. The Orange You Sweet card was done with Close to My Heart products. I used a little embroidery thread to tie my two tags together.

For the last card I used a stamp set that I’ve had for a LONG time. I can’t even remember where I got it. Anyway, I colored the flower with ShinHanart Markers, used a little embroidery thread for a bow, and popped the sentiment up with a little foam tape.

Always learning! These were three fun cards that were quick and fairly easy to do with Freshly Made Sketches 232. Thanks for stopping by and have a wonderful week!

MOJO Monday 443: Hello! Hello! Card

Hello! Hello! is the theme of this card for the MOJO Monday 443 Challenge. There is so much talent and inspiration on display in this challenge!

I chose a pretty simple little card today. It was a wonderful spring week in Wisconsin and I’ve been working on getting a little spring cleaning and yard work done. This evening I decided to sit down and make some cards while I can still hear bird songs through the open windows.

I liked this bright green paper with all the speech bubbles and like the way it stands out against the blue and black background. I added a Cricut Cut speech bubble from “Basic Shapes”. The stamps are from Stamps of Life. The bird is from the Hippo2Stamp set.

Thanks for stopping by and may God bless the rest of your weekend!

Mojo Monday 430: Kid Birthday Card

Good afternoon!

My MOJO Monday card makes me think of a little warmer weather. Hope it does for you too! It was minus 12 degrees Fahrenheit when we got up this this morning and all I could think of was wrapping my hands around some warm coffee. I’m still in a little bit of a slow moving mode.

I worked on some cards yesterday afternoon and wanted some cute and simple kid’s birthday cards for later in the year. For this card I used the free Dearie Dolls Image “Wheelie”. I sized it down to about 2 1/2 inches square. The embossing on yellow was done with the Cuttlebug. The stamp is from Stamps of Life. My personal challenge is to use up bits and pieces and try to level out the stash a bit rather than buying anything new. The red paper sort of reminded me of wheels to carry out the “wheelie” theme a bit.
